Wilton Residence

Ottawa, Ontario

A bright new dining room and kitchen space were designed to become the centre of family life. Previously cramped quarters now allow room for everyone to be part of food preparation, homework and dining while enjoying a great visual connection to the new porch and garden.

A compact, but well organized mudroom, has space for all the paraphernalia of cold or wet weather with personal cubbies and hanging space. The new porch serves as both an outdoor dining room and privacy barrier to sidewalk passersby.

All of these renovations have followed the language of the original house, complete with divided light windows, heritage trim profiles and a painted tongue and groove ceiling vault in the dining area.

Awards

  • Finalist - renovations/additions category in the Greater Ottawa Home Builders Association (GOHBA) Awards, 2010. Winners will be announced in October 2010.

"Chris is a spatial genius. In about 4 minutes he solved a problem in our architectural design that we had been unable to solve in over 4 years. He has a wonderful eye for the simple and unexpected. His firm was attentive, smart, insightful and a pleasure to work with throughout. As one passerby remarked 'it's hard to renovate an old house tastefully - your architect really nailed it'. We totally agree."
