King City, Ontario
King City, with its rolling meadows and woods, was the ideal spot for a family of equestrians to combine the amenities of both a city house and recreational retreat into one new home.
Nestled into a slope, the house appears at the crest of a rise of land and reads as a single storey structure. The grade drops away at the rear, allowing the house to present two storeys to the courtyard - a focal point of the house. Visual sight lines throughout provide vistas of the courtyard, as well as beyond to the neighboring countryside of stream, woods and fields.
An octagon theme has been repeated in the design and 45 degree geometry was used to develop the unique crescent shaped plan. The exterior stone cladding is sandstone blended with Owen Sound ledge-rock. Exterior walls are stucco and roofing is cedar. Interior finishes feature oak plank flooring, limestone tiles and wrought iron balustrades.
