Wakefield, Quebec
We are delighted to be working with the Wakefield community in designing the new Wakefield-LaPêche Community Centre - to be completed in the Spring of 2011. At 16,000 sq.ft., the building will include: a Great Hall that will accommodate community gatherings and a theatre; a library; and youth centre. The building will also frame a central exterior space, creating a clearly defined venue for festivals, concerts or markets. Recreational areas will include an outdoor hockey rink, children's playground and regulation size soccer field.
Designed with nature in mind, the building will take advantage of vistas to the surrounding forest and river valley. Landscaping will feature native planting requiring little or no irrigation, and will support the character of its surroundings. Storm water collection from roofs and hard surfaces will be channeled to a retention pond which will collect and filter rain water on site.
The super-insulated and air-tight building will incorporate many energy efficient systems including a groundsource HVAC system, windows that are oriented to maximize passive solar heat gain, low flow water fixtures, and low energy consumption light fixtures.
