Born and raised in rural England, seduced by the Canadian wilderness and deeply influenced by travels in South Asia, I find I can listen to a landscape, feel the energy and flow of space at a building site and translate these voices into new spaces — spaces for contemplation and action, for celebration and intimacy. Of course, these spaces are shaped by other voices as well — those of the men and women, school boards, conservation authorities, businesses and housing co-ops that make up our diverse clientele. Meeting their needs and respecting their vision is our core purpose. But being an architect also affords me the privilege of creating spaces that affirm human connections, inspire awe of nature and help to heal rather than harm the planet. This is the ethos I try to impart to everyone on the staff of Christopher Simmonds Architect Inc.
